The basis is the shape of the day, not a supplier score. A page earns a place if cruise passengers actually search it, and if it changes what you do with the hours you have. Old San Juan walking, a historic reading of the forts, the old-versus-new contrast, El Yunque, and a privately paced city day all pass that test. What usually fits a first call

If the ship is on the Old San Juan side, a first visit is well spent in the historic core. Walk a limited loop, see one fort properly, and leave. That is a better use of San Juan than a generic water hour that could happen in many other ports. If the ship is on the Pan American side, the same city day can still be right, but the transfer is part of the plan. Read the walkable page before you decide the city is “easy”.

What to leave out

El Yunque is worth doing when it is the day. It is a poor add-on. Beach time and snorkelling are optional contrasts, not the identity of this stop. A helmet walk is not a way to “see the reef and the forts”. Introductory diving is a different activity again, with its own constraints, covered only as a short note on discover scuba.

If someone offers a package that claims to include the old city, the rainforest and a water stop, ask what gets cut when the ship’s window is ordinary. This site will not tell you a departure point, an inclusion list, or a rank order of operators. There is no operator list here.
